Carr Announces Settlement with Rent-A-Center

Attorney General Chris Carr today announced that his office has entered into a settlement with Rent-A-Center. The settlement resolves allegations that the company engaged in deceptive sales and marketing tactics and violated the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in the course of its rent-to-own sales of furniture, electronics and appliances. 

Carr Encourages Businesses, Consumers to Prepare for Shutdown of 3G Technology

Attorney General Chris Carr is encouraging Georgia businesses and consumers to prepare for the complete shutdown of 3G technology as mobile networks transition to more advanced network services, including 5G coverage. 

"We understand that news of the 3G shutdown may have escaped the notice of many Georgians, but this is an important issue," said Carr. "Service to certain older mobile devices will be disabled, including the ability to dial 911, some home security systems will no longer connect to their servers and some medical devices will require updates as well. We urge Georgia businesses and consumers to contact their providers to determine if they are impacted by this shutdown and to act quickly if a device or software upgrade is required."

Governor Kemp, Attorney General Carr, and the Georgia Department of Revenue Highlight Identity Theft Awareness Week

Attorney General Chris Carr is encouraging all Georgians to join in recognizing Data Privacy Week from Jan. 24-28, 2022, by reviewing and adjusting their privacy settings in order to protect their personal information.

Carr: Georgia Joins 38 States in $1.85 Billion Nationwide Settlement with Student Loan Servicer Navient

Attorney General Chris Carr today announced that the State of Georgia has joined 38 states in reaching a $1.85 billion nationwide settlement with Navient, one of the nation’s largest student loan servicers. Georgia borrowers to receive relief totaling more than $118 million.

Carr: Georgia Joins $26 Billion Settlement with Opioid Distributors and Johnson & Johnson

Attorney General Chris Carr today announced that the State of Georgia has signed on to the $26 billion multi-state agreement with Cardinal, McKesson and AmerisourceBergen – the nation’s three major pharmaceutical distributors – and opioid manufacturer and marketer Johnson & Johnson.

Carr, Toomey Warn of COVID-19 Testing Scams and Price Gouging

Attorney General Chris Carr and Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) Commissioner Kathleen E. Toomey, M.D., M.PH, are warning Georgians to beware of potential scams related to the heightened demand for COVID-19 testing.

CONSUMER ALERT: Carr Warns Georgians to Look Out for World Series Ticket Scams

Attorney General Chris Carr is warning Atlanta Braves fans to look out for ticket scams ahead of this week’s World Series games. Major sporting events present an opportunity for scammers to exploit consumers through the sale of fake, void or stolen tickets on the secondary market. Ticket scams not only pose a risk for financial theft, but consumers may also fall victim to identity theft if both financial and personal information is provided as part of the transaction.
